Aikido unites the elements of self defence, physical fitness and nonviolent philosophy into modern martial art. It’s history dates back to the Samurai era of Japan. Techniques are based on the simple principal of circular force applied in harmony to redirect the force of an attack. The founder, Morihei Ueshiba (1882-1969) developed the system based on his lifetime study of combining technical skill and spirit. One of his distinguished disciples was Gozo Shioda (1915-1994). Yoshinkai Aikido concentrates on fundamental basic movements and techniques, many of which have practical self defence applications.
